Matt Scribbles & Dibbles for 8 December 2024 [exercising my brain through prompts]

  • Today I reviewed the Four Social Errors and Biases presented in Ch. 4 of THiNK: Critical Thinking and Logic Skills for Everyday Life. The social errors/biases in the book that I am most affected by is racism and the facade of equality in America. I've had both experiences, fairness and unfairness, and I believe that fairness is much better than unfairness. The way that I am working to overcome my social error/bias is by filing legal suits against the racism that I experience in Tomah.
  • In Ch. 5 , the description of fallacies is: when an argument seems to be correct but isn't. One fallacy you have personally used in an argument is that I let my ex-wife believe that I got a vasectomy because she didn't want to get the tubal ligation surgery herself, when it is most convenient to do so. I did this so that she would stop bringing it up and allow me to stop using condoms as we had done for the entirety of our marriage, which sucked. One fallacy I've seen used on me in an argument was my ex-wife letting me believe that she was not having sex with Rino, her high school sweetheart. She did this because I had two jobs that paid well and allowed us to travel all over the United States, and her mother did not want my ex-wife to marry Rino because he just got out of prison for killing someone at age 13. The military trained me in critical thinking, and that has made me less likely to be influenced by arguments that are based on fallacies and faulty reasoning.
  • Reflecting on the learning activities, concepts, ideas, and topics covered this week, I see that social error/bias really moved me. I applied the things that I learned to my current situation so that I can get the concept down pat. I've always implemented concepts immediately and procedurally so that I can get the concept to work for me.
